CAFE stands for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary. This system of targeted reading instruction includes goal-setting with students in individual conferences, posting of goals on a whole-class board, small-group instruction based on clusters of students with similar goals, and whole-class instruction based on emerging student needs. You can see the CAFE "menu" on the bulletin board in our classroom library.
